As they grow they are fed grains. Pigeons mostly feed upon grains made from proteins and fish and chicken grit. These grit mixture is an essential nutrition. As part of their daily feed water forms part of their daily food and pigeons consume good amount of water . Flying of pigeons need energy and a appropriate mixture of the three edged food of the feed grains and grits along with water forms the perfect nutrition for the pigeons.
The pigeon food is very much susceptible to bacteria's through the beetles and larvas. This may result in bacteroligcal and other parasitic infections in the pigeon and may eventually form harmful to the society as the pigeon may contaminate the local water supply and local air. Hence pigeon food is given very much emphasis for their as well as the societies nourishment. The quantity of food fed to pigeon is another matter of concern. Usually the pigeons are fed around one tablespoon per bird everyday of grains and chicken and fish grits.
A tablespoon consists of around one pound of grain and is sufficient for a growing bird. Water supply to the pigeon should also be checked. A well fed pigeon should not drink water right after it has consumed the grain as it would lead the grain to swell in the stomach leading the pigeon to fell sick due to overeating.
