Hence in order for healthy birds the loft door should be opened all the time. Their diet should also be given attention. They should also be protected from the weather. Even though the cold cannot do much harm to them yet precautions should be taken. Especially for the young birds this is important because they are not used to enduring hardships and hence should be given protection.
The climate that can be harmful to them is the snowy drafts and chilly winds that blow and for that muslin coverings should be done around the windows and doors so that no drafts can come in except for sunlight and air. The birds need to be fed every morning at dawn time and every afternoon and they should only be given as much food as they can finish off in ten minutes or so. One should keep in mind that they should not feed birds right before they are due to take flight as this makes their stomach heavy and they are not able to cover long distances.
They should be given a bath on regular basis but not when the weather is exceptionally cold as this may be hazardous to health. Sand should be laid out for their droppings. This is beneficial as it helps with the digestion of their food and also to help in the cleaning process.
